Unlike the Pill, ParaGard® is often covered by the medical fee schedule because it is purchased directly by patients or healthcare professionals. The J code most commonly used for ParaGard®
is J7300, although this may vary among some healthcare plans. Each provider is responsible for selecting the appropriate code to submit for services and products provided.

Reimbursement for ParaGard® should be determined on a patient-specific basis. To help ensure accurate and full reimbursement, we've created the ParaGard® Reimbursement Information Kit. This kit contains various helpful components including a guide that provides the necessary reimbursement codes, a checklist with the key questions to ask when verifying a patient's insurance eligibility, and reimbursement tips and frequently asked questions.

For those patients who do not have insurance, or choose not to use their insurance, the ParaGard® Patient Payment Plan is another option. Patients paying for ParaGard® themselves can make a one-time payment in full, or make 12 monthly installments. This convenient payment plan and 150-day money-back guarantee* are tailored to fit patients' budgets and lives.

ParaGard® does not protect against HIV/AIDS or other sexually transmitted infections. ParaGard® must not be used by women who are or may be pregnant; have acute pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or current behavior suggesting a high risk for PID; have had a postpregnancy or postabortion uterine infection in the past 3 months; have cancer of the uterus or cervix; have an infection in the cervix; have an allergy to any component; or have Wilson's disease. The most common side effects of ParaGard® are heavier and longer periods and spotting between periods; for most women, these typically subside after 2 to 3 months. If a woman misses her period, she must be promptly evaluated for pregnancy. Some possible serious complications that have been associated with intrauterine contraceptives, including ParaGard®, are PID, perforation of the uterus, and expulsion.
